About the Role

We are seeking an immigration attorney who wants real case ownership early. You will manage your own portfolio, advise clients directly, drive filing strategy on difficult matters, and help shape how the firm's business immigration practice grows. Attorneys who bring or want to build a book of business will find an unusually open runway here.

Key Responsibilities

Practice & Case Strategy

  • Manage a portfolio of employment- and business-based matters, including H-1B, L-1, O-1, E-2, E-3, TN, and P classifications.
  • Advise on and supervise immigrant visa strategy, including PERM labor certification, EB-1A, EB-1B, EB-1C, EB-2 National Interest Waiver, EB-2, EB-3, and EB-5.
  • Conduct case strategy consultations, assess eligibility and risk, and recommend the strongest available filing path.
  • Review, revise, and sign filings prepared by paralegals; take direct responsibility for filing quality and legal sufficiency.
  • Develop and execute strategy for Requests for Evidence, Notices of Intent to Deny, denials, motions to reopen or reconsider, and AAO appeals.
  • Advise corporate clients on sponsorship program design, worksite compliance, corporate restructuring effects, and audit exposure.
  • Support consular processing strategy, waiver applications, and complex admissibility issues, and coordinate on federal court mandamus actions where appropriate.

Client Relationships & Firm Growth

  • Own client relationships end to end, including scoping, engagement terms, expectations, and outcome communication.
  • Participate in business development, including referral relationships, speaking engagements, webinars, and community programming.
  • Contribute to firm thought leadership through written content, client alerts, and multilingual educational material.
  • Mentor and supervise paralegals and legal assistants, and contribute to internal training and template development.
  • Meet reasonable billable and collections expectations and maintain accurate, timely time entry.

Qualifications

Required

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, or a foreign law degree with an LL.M. where required for admission.
  • Active license and good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Two to eight years of substantive business- and employment-based immigration experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a caseload and communicate directly with sophisticated corporate clients.
  • Strong analytical, research, drafting, and issue-spotting skills, with excellent written and oral advocacy.
  • Sound professional judgment and strict adherence to the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct.

Preferred

  • Illinois bar admission.
  • American Immigration Lawyers Association membership and active participation.
  • Experience with EB-5, E-2 investor, or high-net-worth private client matters.
  • Family-based, humanitarian, or removal defense exposure to support cross-practice needs.
  • Existing referral network or portable client relationships.
  • Fluency in Russian, Ukrainian, or Spanish in addition to English.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: Starting Salary 90k — commensurate with experience, plus an origination and performance bonus structure.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Firm-paid bar dues, CLE, and AILA membership.
  • Meaningful autonomy over your caseload and a direct path to expanded responsibility as the practice grows.
